Landcare 2013

Harcourt Valley Landcare group has lots of activities planned for 2013.

Areas of activity for the Group include:

· A stall at the Appplefest - indigenous plant sales and competition

· Planting and weeding along Barker’s Creek opposite the Fire Station on both sides of the creek

· A walk to look at the rare Ballantinia plant found only on Mount Alexander

· Activities – barbecues, working bees – some shared with Barker’s Creek Landcare group, Landcare bush dance.

· Barker’s Creek / Harcourt Valley Section Local Action Plan - The Harcourt Valley, Barker’s Creek and Harcourt North/ Sedgwick Landcare Groups were successful in gaining a grant to develop a Local Action Plan in a joint project to clean up Barker’s Creek, with steering committee representation from all three Landcare Groups.

We are concentrating on improving the Oak Forest at the moment. Trevor & Jarrod have been organising new barbecues and picnic tables which will be in place late July 2013. New directional signage has been put in place by Landcare – there is a sign directing visitors to the Oak Forest, at the top of Picnic Gully Road and a new interpretive sign is in place in the Oak Forest itself, explaining the history of the forest and some of the species found there.

The Group meets every 2nd Thursday of the month at the ANA Hall/Harcourt Heritage Centre at 7:30 pm. All welcome.

The Group runs regular events on the 4th Sunday of the month, usually starting from Stanley Park at 10am.
